The Van Kaathoven Group consists of 3 divisions: Transportation, Processing and Sales. One of the core activities within the Processing division is composting and fermentation.
The Van Kaathoven Group annually composts 90,000 tonnes of organic waste streams at both plants; in Sint-Oedenrode and Bladel.
As first in the world, The Van Kaathoven Group chose to compost organic waste in the so-called tunnel system. Batch-wise processing with forced ventilation up to 120,000 m3 air per hour enables a reliable but also fast way of processing organic waste streams. The removal of these large quantities of air takes place by means of so-called bio-filters to prevent odour emissions. Because of the pasteurisation phase, there are no seeds or weed seeds left in the compost and as a result of the ultramodern screening installation with magnetic tape and matter separator, all visible pollution is removed from the compost.
High-grade, energy abundant organic waste streams are processed into single streams and subsequently processed in a digester and green power is manufactured from the produced bio gas. The compost from the composting facilities and the digestate from the digester are verified against the specifications of BOOM (Dutch Decree for Quality and Use of Other Organic Fertilisers). These high-grade products are used in agriculture or serve as raw material for further manufacturing. The supply of compost is recorded in an automated system with accompanying parameters.
Among our clients are local authorities, restaurants and kitchens of large (health) institutions, caterers, manufacturers of food and related products, supermarkets and auction companies.
